Andrew Skafel, President & CEO

Responsible for leading Edgewater Wireless, Andrew’s broad strategic perspective comes from his work with both multinational equipment vendors and a number of start-up network operators. Andrew has significant multinational experience. He was based in Asia for seven years where he worked for Newbridge Networks/Alcatel; Silicon Valley-based, InterWAVE Communications and the Commercial Division of the Canadian High Commission (Malaysia). His roles included strategic marketing, international business development and business planning. A proven telecom innovator and leader, Andrew founded an innovative GSM operator in Brasil, taking the project from concept to fundraising, license acquisition and launch phases. Mr. Skafel holds an MBA from INSEEC (Paris), a graduate diploma from the McRae Institute of International Management (Vancouver) and a BA in Economics & Politics from the University of Western Ontario.

Jimmy Jeon, CFO

Jimmy Jeon currently works with Marrelli Support Services Inc., providing CFO, accounting, compliance, and management advisory services to numerous public trading companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange and other Canadian and U.S. exchanges. Mr. Jeon is a CPA with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University, specializing in accounting. Mr. Jeon has over seven years of experience in various sectors and is responsible for accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and disclosures.

Eric Smith, VP, Product

Eric Smith is Vice President-Product for Edgewater Wireless, where he oversees the development of the company’s next-generation Wi-Fi Spectrum Slicing products and solutions. An entrepreneur and highly creative business leader, Eric has been instrumental in disruptive technology innovation for the past 20 years, from the infancy of High-Speed Internet to advancements in 5G. During his career, Eric has developed and brought to market products deployed, purchased or acquired by industry-leading public companies including Comcast, Mitel, Windstream, and Zayo. An accomplished musician, Eric artfully blends technical and creative product direction, which has translated into building successful business strategies for a cross-section of technology companies across multiple industries.

Nicolas Fortineau, VP Marketing

Mr. Fortineau oversees Edgewater’s service provider go-to-market efforts and strategy.  Before joining Edgewater, was EVP CMO for Airties, a private equity-backed global leader of managed Wi-Fi solutions for broadband providers.  Previously, his tenure at Liberty Global spanned more than a decade.  Most recently, he oversaw group product development efforts for connectivity across seven countries for Liberty Global’s residential and SoHo customers while serving as Product Director of Connectivity Platforms.  In this role, he spearheaded development efforts across networks, CPE, cloud services and data insight disciplines — leveraging the best technology, such as Wi-Fi, 5G, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve consumers’ digital lives.  Nicolas is the founder of Polaris Lab, a consultancy helping companies to accelerate their growth.

Brian Imrie, Chairman and Owner, Debro, Inc.

Mr. Imrie was the Chairman and owner of Debro Inc., a privately owned chemical distribution company, from 2014 until its sale in 2022. Between 2009 and 2012, Mr. Imrie was Global Head of Mining M & A for KPMG Corporate Finance and was responsible for creating an integrated global mining advisory team based in over ten countries. Mr. Imrie was Managing Director and Co-Head of M & A for National Bank Financial for seven years (2001-2008). Mr. Imrie was also an M & A and Corporate Finance banker with Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse from 1987 to 2001. Mr. Imrie received his MBA from Harvard University in 1987 and his BA from the University of Toronto in 1983.

Ralph Garcea, Independent Director

Mr. Garcea co-founded Focus Merchant Group in September 2018 and has more than 22 years experience in senior positions at major domestic and international firms, as well as boutiques. He was a top-ranked research analyst, well regarded for the depth and breadth of knowledge of Canadian technology, gaming and industrial companies across a broad range of market capitalizations. Over the years, he has received top three rankings from Brendan Woods, Greenwich, Starmine and Thomson Reuters surveys. Before becoming a sell-side analyst, he was a research engineer for Bombardier Aerospace, and a business unit manager for Michigan-based LMS North America to manage sales, marketing, and services efforts. Mr. Garcea holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Engineering Science (Aerospace) from the University of Toronto and an M.B.A. (Honours) from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Mr. Garcea currently serves as a Director on the board of TSX-listed Converge Technology Solutions (TSX: CTS)(FSE: OZE)(OTCQX: CTSDF); as well as TSX-V listed Turnium Technology Group (TSXV: TTGI) and Spitfyre Capital (TSXV: FYRE.P).

James (Jim) Skippen, Independent Director (Nominee)

James (Jim) Skippen is a seasoned lawyer and businessman and has been involved in managing several technology companies. He is semi-retired but works part-time on consulting and board engagements. From 2006 to 2023, Mr. Skippen held various positions with WiLAN Inc.(Quarterhill Inc.), a public company which was listed on both the TSX and the Nasdaq, including CEO and Chairman of the Board. He has also managed several large and complex company sales, licensing negotiations and litigations. Before joining WiLAN Inc., he worked for two of Canada’s largest law firms and is currently a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is a former board member of the Canadian Diabetes Association, Elmwood School, Ottawa Art Gallery, MPT Technologies Inc., Icron Inc., Solutrea Inc., ENG2 Inc. and Imagination Park Technologies Inc. Mr. Skippen has spoken at many conferences and made numerous television appearances. He has delivered numerous papers and articles on topics such as patent licensing, management of intellectual property, governance and technology law. Mr. Skippen has won a number of awards and in its annual determination of Canada’s top technology executive, Cantech magazine declared Mr. Skippen as Canada’s top public technology company CEO for 2011. For many years IAM recognized Mr. Skippen as one of the world’s leading Intellectual Property strategists. Mr. Skippen is not currently serving in any role in a reporting issuer.

Duane Anderson, Founder and Chair of Advisory Panel

Duane Anderson founded Edgewater Computer Systems, Inc. in 1988 with the goal of developing theoretically correct real-time computer systems based on open system standards. He provides research and development consulting services to organizations, including the Canadian Department of National Defence, the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy, that require assistance to produce high-performance multi-processor systems. Mr. Anderson has driven Edgewater’s expansion to offer products in addition to services. He is at the forefront of the company’s development of wireless and wired communications as well as networking products, and of a new release of the 1553 military standard for data bus technology in military avionics. Previously, Mr. Anderson spent several years as a senior engineer and project engineer with a major manufacturer of VMEbus-based military computers. He also has experience as a principal designer of high-speed VLSI Tech test equipment. Additionally, he has worked in the research and development of microprocessor-based oilfield instrumentation, and as a developer of powersystem instrumentation technologies. Mr. Anderson has a BSc in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He has been an active participant in real-time computer systems research and in high-performance interface standard developments by organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Bert Whyte, Advisor

Bert Whyte has held a variety of positions during his career, including President and CEO of Network Equipment Technologies (NET) www.net.com, and President of Advanced Computer Communications (ACC), both of California. Mr. Whyte successfully restructured NET to become a leading player in the emerging broadband and IP voice markets. Prior to this, Mr. Whyte turned ACC into a market leader in IP routing which was eventually acquired by the giant Swedish Telecom company Ericsson for just under US$300M. Mr. Whyte was also one of the early employees of Newbridge Networks Corporation, a company founded by Terry Matthews and subsequently sold to Alcatel. Mr. Whyte has been active in the investment community, and has participated in a number of mergers and acquisitions over his career.

Steve Andrews, Wireless Broadband Alliance Board Advisor & Founder Abbey Barn Communications

Mr. Steve Andrews has over 25 years as an executive in the communications industry, spending the greater part of his career to date with British Telecom (BT). He transitioned from BT in 2009 to pursue his career as a Technology Investor, Advisor and Non-Executive Director, Steve has extensive experience in business management, M&A, customer engagement, telecom operations and product development. He is also a Board Advisor to Wireless Broadband Alliance which formulates industry strategies for WiFi and related technologies.
